The interview took place in Gunnersbury Park where Brentford's Community Sports Trust were putting on an event, in conjunction with new front of shirt sponsor Indeed, at their Clubhouse Cafe a social impact and community-led space that opened in September 2025.


Ayo is joined by The Athletic's Oli Kay & Caoimhe O'Neill to reflect on the occasion, and discuss the incredible work Brentford FC do in the local community.

Olly, tell us about the occasion, but also what this trust actually does.

Yeah, well, Brentford's community trust is similar to what most clubs across, you know,

across English football and British football will have.

It's a sort of community program attached to the club, independent of the club,

but under the club umbrella, as it were.

Brentford is actually one of the longest running. It's been there since 1987, so when the club was

sort of mid-table in the third tier, playing in front of 4,000 and 5,000 average attendances,

the club set this up, and it was basically to connect with and help people in their

local community, which at the time, obviously, it was a small struggling club that probably not

many people outside of that part of West London thought very much about. It was in the shadow

of Queenst Park Rangers and Chelsea and Fulham,

but they always wanted to make a difference within the community.

And this event, uh, in conjunction with indeed the employment agency who are going to be

a new shirt sponsor next season and already working extensively with the trust was at
