What's going on everyone? Welcome back to the show and if you've been listening over the last couple days you know we're talking with Ryan McAllister who is Martha Stewart's personal gardener

0:08.0

Today we're talking about how in the heck does he keep track of that much stuff? I sometimes have a hard time keeping

0:15.8

track of when things have gone in the ground, the succession planting I've been

0:18.9

doing, and I don't have a whole lot of space. I'm in an urban environment. He's got 150 acres to manage and it's not even all

0:26.7

edible. Some of it's floral, there's fruit trees, there's a bunch of stuff going on. And so I figured I would ask him

0:31.7

how he tracked it all and here is what he had to say.

0:35.0

So how do you how do you track all of this stuff right lately I've been building like a

0:40.7

little spreadsheet type thing for my own yard just to keep track in my own head of okay well I have eight beds

0:47.3

They're in different parts of the yard they're using different methods. Maybe they have some hydroponic stuff going on maybe have some containers and it's kind of like a

0:54.4

a master spreadsheet tracking list type thing but for everything you're for just for like edibles

1:00.4

well yeah just for edibles because actually I mostly grow edibles almost everything else

1:05.3

that I have is a relatively easy to care for house plant just because edibles is kind of the focus for

1:11.6

this year.

1:13.0

But even if it wasn't, it could still go into the spreadsheet.

1:16.0

But I'm wondering how do you possibly track all that stuff

1:19.0

if you're growing on a space that large?

1:21.0

Well, the property as a whole, there's like different gardens everywhere,

1:25.8

different ornamental gardens or groves of trees.

1:28.6

So a lot of that kind of stuff is, even though we have to maintain it,

1:31.9

that's the stuff that's pretty much there year to year.

1:36.4

Like I know the P&E garden, the P&E's are there every year they come up.

1:39.0

So that's the kind of stuff where it's just more general maintenance and not having to like replan the garden every
