When we surrender our lives to Jesus, when we belong to Him, it's expected that we will grow in reflecting his character, including emulating his love.

Today on Truth for Life, we'll learn how the Apostle John's social test of genuine love

0:39.8

reveals something about our relationship with God. Alistair Begg is teaching from 1 John

0:46.4

chapter 2. Here's how you'll know that you're in Christ if you keep His commands.

Now, you see, you come to me afterwards, you say, you know what? I didn't like that because

1:03.0

I do have a card in my Bible, and I did do this, and I did do that. Hey, I've got cards in my

1:07.5

Bible. I've walked aisles. I've prayed prayers. I've done the whole nine yards

1:11.7

along with you. But I'm reading one John as well, and this is what I'm discovering. The word of God

1:17.1

says to me, you want to know, Alistair, beg, that you are in me tonight. Here's how you will know

1:32.3

a deacon, a singer, a testifier, a speaker at women's clubs, I don't care who you are. Here's the test.

1:40.4

The moral test of the radical claims of Jesus Christ.

1:45.9

And I say again, we've soft-soaked the gospel to such a degree that every Tom, Dick, Harry, and Mary that is found trundling along somewhere in a vast cavernous gap, somewhere behind Jesus Christ, is swept into life. Well, we made a new gospel. Certainly not the

2:06.8

gospel of Jesus, nor the gospel of John, nor what he is driving home here. The relevance or the

2:13.3

irrelevance of what happened in the past needs to be assessed in light of what is going on in the

2:21.0

present. This is how we know we are in him. Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

2:29.1

There's a great challenge in that as well, isn't there? Doesn't say must talk as Jesus talked. For most of us, talk

2:37.9

is cheap. We can talk it up good. We can talk it good enough to pass the inspection of blind

2:48.9

guides.

2:53.5

He says, it's not the talk, it's the walk.

2:59.2

Whoever claims to live in him must walk the way that Jesus walked.

3:01.0

He walked in obedience to his father.
