Past couple of weeks I've talked about out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

So I thought I would stick with the theme of our hearts for at least another week.

There's so much good material in the Bible on the heart. Our hearts are a big deal.

Proverbs 423 says, keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

So let's look at this word by word. First, the word keep. To keep is to hold or maintain. I like to think of a guard

stationed on duty all the time, holding the gate, maintaining the gate. Keep your heart. This means we let no

enemy into our heart, no evil intentions, no bad motives, no surly attitudes. They are not welcome.

But to do this requires constant attention and effort. Therefore, we must keep our heart with all

diligence. This means having a constant lookout. It also means having a skeptical attitude toward our own hearts.
