Summary

As a queen consort of England, Kateryn Parr's history is often overshadowed by the events that allegedly occurred between her husband and Lady Elizabeth. The Victorian historians didn't help her reputation either. Agnes Strickland's Lives of the Queens of England depicts Parr as having an 'unrivaled skill as a nurse'.

Today I am joined by Dr. Linda Porter to get a feel for the real Kateryn Parr. Dr. Porter responds to many of the myths about Parr, as well as interesting stories about her life.

1:07.8	But today, our topic is another one of her books that I did not list there, Catherine the Queen.

1:12.3	Thank you very much, Rebecca.
1:18.7	So Catherine was the sixth and last wife of Henry the 8th. She married four times in all,
1:24.7	and she's often referred to as a nursemaid, but she wasn't that, was she?
1:33.2	No, I don't actually know how far back this rather Victorian interpretation of Catherine Par goes,
1:35.5	but it may actually be Victorian, of course.
1:39.7	And it has acquired a kind of life of its own occasion.
1:45.0	And I am irritated to find even historians who should know better nowadays still referring to it.
1:47.9	But it is just completely silly.
