today may well be the greatest screen actress of her generation over the last

twenty three years this beautiful Brit has starred in 50 films and gave great performances in many of them, including 1994's heavenly creatures, 1995 Sens and Sensibility, 1996 is Hamlet, 1997's Titanic, 2000's Quills,

2001's Iris, 2004's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,

and Finding Neverland, 2006's Little Children, 2008's The Reader, and Revolutionary

Road, 2011's Carnage, 2013's Labor Day, 2015 Steve Jobs, and most recently in the 2017 Woody Allen Dramedy Wonder Wheel

Only four women in history Merrill Streep Catherine Hepburn Betty Davis and Geraldine

Paige have accumulated more acting Oscar nominations than her seven, one of

which resulted in a win for the reader.

She also possesses four Golden Globes, three SAG Awards, one Emmy, and one Grammy, as well as the hearts of a generation of people,

like me, who fell in love with her through the biggest movie of our lifetime, Titanic,

Dr. Ross Melnick, an associate professor of film and media studies at UC Santa Barbara.

Melnick, who got his BA at Brandeis University and both his MA and PhD at UCLA is the founder of the website

Cinema Treasures and the author of 2004's Cinema Treasures, a new look at Classic

Movie Theaters, and 2014's American showman Samuel Roxy

Rothofel and the birth of the entertainment industry 1908 to 1935. His next book

Screening the World, Hollywood's Global Exhibition Empires, is being partially funded by a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a result of Melnick back in July 2017 being chosen as one of this year's two Academy film scholars.
