Derek Chauvin, the police officer who was charged with second-degree murder in the

appearance last Friday. The former Minneapolis police officer was charged with

murder after pressing his knee into the neck of George Floyd for more than eight minutes.

Mr. Chauvin, a white 19-year police veteran, appeared in court in person last week for the first

time since the second-degree murder charges were filed against him.

Previous hearings had been conducted by video conference.

Prosecutors indicated in the court filings that they intended to describe Mr. Chauvin's earlier arrest record as evidence of a pattern of excessive force, not an isolated incident.
