Summary

Warning: This episode contains strong language.

Kate Thornton is as frank and funny as ever, and this week she joins Gabby to talk about everything from single motherhood and presenting prime time Saturday night telly, to the power of talking therapy and recovering from an eating disorder. Kate speaks about the importance of female friendships and how her girl gang are her life raft, and also why her happiest times have been the years she has been a mum to her son, Ben. Kate speaks openly about her ongoing experience of the menopause, and why the right doctor is as fundamental as the right therapist when you’re a middle aged woman.

You can hear more from Kate on her podcast White Wine Question Time or tune into her weekend radio shows on Greatest Hits Radio

but we are always literally running somewhere, aren't we?

1:12.0

We are, and we go way back because your time as a fixture on Saturday night

telly, shiny floor telly and being the go-to girl at ITV coincided withtv coincided when I was at I-tv back in the day so we had a kind of bit of

crossover and we'd bump into each other back then but your ascent to stardom actually

1:31.5

started way before that when you became the youngest ever editor of Smash Hits at 21 years old.

I peaked very early. It's been it's just been managing decline ever since.

1:44.0

That is, when you think now about what 21-year-olds are doing and you meet 21-year-olds,

1:49.3

what do you think it was about you at 21 that you had that confidence and dry. Where did that come from to be in a position like that?

1:58.5

I just don't think I'd had the life kicked out of me. I was full of optimism. I didn't know what I couldn't do. I just knew what I wanted to do.

2:08.1

Literally I had been in work for just over a year when I got that job. So it is extraordinary that they gave it to me but equally if you juxtapose that because the guys that hired me
