Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 227 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A perfect repeat performance for you this episode as Pip is joined by close personal pal and multi talented spoken word contemporary KATE TEMPEST to tell some stories and catch up in general!

An excellently timed slot for Kate, hot on the release of her new book ‘Running Upon The Wires’, so you can expect a lot of science behinds the scenes on that, as well as her other releases and the weird and wild world of being a debut author. But of course, there’s a bunch of catchup to get done as the two get down to all sorts, including the promo circuit being a jack of more than one trade, the catharsis of poetry, page and stage, filtering bad situations into good material, the respect she has for creative people, some mental anecdotes on working with Rick Rubin for crying out loud, what else she’s into music-wise and beyond, and just all kinds of goodness from the world of Kate! Brilliant stuff, a perfect follow on from her last episode, which you should also peep if you haven’t. GET IN!

Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the distraction pieces podcast episode 227.

0:06.4

Already. My name is Scrubius Pip. Thank you for tuning in. Today's guest is one of my favorite people in the world and one of many requested return guests.

0:17.7

It's Miss Kate Tempest. I've known Kate for years. She's like a sister to me.

0:23.6

I love her dearly. I'm a fan of her work with we gig together for years and years and years. And yeah, it was, it was, it's a funny one because I as many of you know, I said for ages, I don't really have return guests.

0:40.6

And then in quite quick succession, I had PR people hit me up about a Simon pick coming back on.

0:47.7

And Kate Tempest coming back on and both of them had come on long enough ago and so much had happened in between. That was like 100% yes.

0:56.9

And then it was beautiful to hear from the PR team that they were setting up all the press for Kate's new book, which I'll tell you about shortly.

1:08.3

In fact, we'll talk about it a lot in the podcast, but they were setting up the press and because it's a very personal release of poetry, she didn't want to do a lot of press. She kind of wanted to just let the work speak for itself and not kind of do the rounds as you do.

1:25.0

And then they suggested my podcast and she was like, yeah, I do pips. So I think she did mine. She did some stuff with the Guardian or the observer.

1:34.6

And I'm not sure how long ago her podcast with James O'Brien was but I've heard great things about that. So check that out as well.

1:42.1

But yeah, this was all set around her new book of running upon the wires, which comes out on September 6th. So, so depending on when you listen to this is either out tomorrow.

1:55.4

All right now. So I should mention that as ever, we're brought to you by speech development records.com a record label that almost actually released a Kate tempest thing because I did a we do a series on their called at home with and it started with at home with polar bear, who me and Kate talk about in this episode because we the three of us toured together.

2:18.2

And good mates, nothing but love for each other.

2:22.8

So the first one was at home with polar bear and what happens is polar bear just sat down at home and recorded a load of his poems. He talked in between explain them.

2:33.4

And then I was going to do a Kate at a tempest. I want at some point and we've never quite got around to it. But we also did at home with Rob Alton and they're available.

2:43.5

The polar bear won the CDs of sold out and they're always a limited thing, but the digital download is available still at speech development records.com and the Rob Alton once do as some CDs left and digital available at speech development records.com and we've just regained the work of the website. So it should be easier to find everything.

3:03.6

I've added some new signed stuff. So signed photos DVDs record books, everything as this is a podcast around a book. I should mention that my times best selling the Straction pieces podcast book is available. They're signed and my graphic novel of poems poetry in emotion is is available there as well.

3:28.3

So head to speech development records.com and have a little look around. So it was great to get to sit down with Kate with. I can't remember if we touch on it in the podcast with we talked about it beforehand, but we used to meet up on the regular for for old mandrakes me Kate and polar would meet up.

3:45.6

And we're just moan about stuff and be excited about stuff and we've not done it in ages because everyone's lives just get busier and people move to different areas and stuff like that. So when this podcast came up was like that that's an ex that it saves us.

4:02.4

failing to arrange to hang out. So we just got to hang out and that's what this is and I hope you feel how how friendly and how excited we were to see each other. I need to give a lot of thanks and love for for the reactions to all the podcast in recent weeks.

4:17.8

The Spike Lee one in particular and the professor green one a lot of people didn't expect I don't know why but didn't expect professor green to be so intelligent and thoughtful and a well spoken amazing guest.
