Absolutely. I am Kate Brooks. I'm a former TV reporter and anchor, turned writer, producer, and filmmaker. I am a proud mom, wife, and activist.

Over the years, I've advocated for causes like mental health awareness, better gun control, and housing justice.

And it was not until I realized that my husband and I had completely botched our kids' birth announcement, the one saying that I had delivered twin boys, that I began advocating for LGBTQ causes.

And my first book, Transistor, raising twins in a gender-bending world, hit stores August 8th, and I'm super excited about that and super scared.

Well, I definitely want to get into the book, but you just dumped a lot on us.

So let's unpack all of that. Tell us a little bit about your family and what you mean when you say that you botched your announcement on your twin boys.

Absolutely. So I gave birth in 2009. We did not, my husband and I did not have any sonograms to indicate what gender babies we were having.

We had lots of tests and sonograms and ultrasounds, but we didn't know what we were giving birth to.
