The new film by director Casey Lemons talked to me.

It takes a look at the True Life story of DC DJ.

Casey, thanks so much for being here.

It's my pleasure.

I know you worked for a long time to get this movie made.

First of all, let us know what it's about for the audience.

Well, this movie deals with really a friendship between Petey Green and Dewey Hughes, who is his producer.

P.D. Green was a very, very, very, very charismatic ex-con turned DJ that became an incredibly influential voice in D.C. in the late 60s and 70s.

And also, not only just D.C., but a national voice.

I mean, you take pains to dramatize what he did in D.C.

after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Right, right.

It was in some ways some of the most romantic period of time in radio when he really had such a huge influence, particularly on that community.

But you're right, it was bigger than D.C.

But in some ways, one of the things that appealed to me about it is it's a very local story.

It's a story that most people don't know.

But yet, if you go to D.C. and you mention P.D. Green, people just light up, you know. Was it true of them? Because I grew up hearing having heard just so I remember that as a little
