Welcome my good colleagues, Bill Rajo, Foundation for the Defense of Democracy Senior Fellow,

and we're very pleased to welcome our longtime colleague, Hussein O'Connor, former ambassador

from Pakistan of the United States, because the headlines from the subcontinent that the conflict these last days leading to a ceasefire between India and Pakistan,

two very capable but very dangerous cultures up against each other in the small state of Kashmir,

the ceasefire continues. However, at no point in the

reading of the news these last days, as it indicated, peace talks are standing down. Both

militaries are showing up in uniform and talking about what happened in the exchange of missile

fire and what didn't happen.

So we looked to the ambassador to help us understand what appears to be an armed standoff,

not promising, remembering that this whole story started in April when there was a terror

attack launched in India, Kashmir,

against young couples who were defenseless.

And leading to the massacre of young men, Hindu men,

by a group calling herself Lashgaritiba,

long identified as a terrorist organization with links to the Pakistan military.

Mr. Ambassador, we've been through ceased fires many times before since the middle of the

century and the separation of the two states. However, this ceasefire had that twist that right

at the end, after the U.S. saying it was going to stay uninvolved.

None of our business said the vice president. The next day, there were major phone calls,

including the Secretary of State to India and Pakistan, and the stand down had to do with

nuclear weapons and the fear that somebody was talking about the need for them.
