Summary

Catherine, David and Matt round off the results from last week’s slate of tournaments, including debut titles for Aslan Karatsev and Leylah Fernandez, yet another semi-final defeat for Denis Shapovalov, more fireworks from Lorenzo Musetti in Acapulco, a mid-match earthquake, a tense victory for Alexander Zverev over Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the continued resurgence of Daria Kasatkina in St Petersburg.

This week, the players (minus Serena Williams and the Big 3) are heading to Miami for the first combined 1000 event of the season. We discuss the withdrawals, the growing number of men’s voices expressing discontent about the current state of tennis, rumours that the PTPA might be planning some sort of action, and Catherine’s interview with Andy Murray for Prime Video.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts. It is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments.

Hello and thank you to Douglas from Brookline Massachusetts where we've been speculating that there

0:30.6

may or may not be a notable golf course. We certainly think that there is a golf course in a

0:36.3

place called Brookline. So Douglas, if that's where you live, I hope it's lovely. And thank you

0:43.4

very much for your support of the podcast and your intro there. This is a podcast being recorded

0:49.6

on Monday the 22nd of March. The Miami Open starts this week. The first ATP and WTA combined

0:58.8

1000 event, well, ever since the WTA switched up their tournament naming system to become

1:08.0

a 1500 to 50 situation that mirrors that of the ATP. It's a podcast recording that has been slightly

1:15.8

delayed by my collecting a new pair of glasses. Very nice to have you. We've been on this

1:22.8

Zoom call for about 20 minutes and nobody's mentioned them and I'm worried that they look crap.

1:27.2

No, they're lovely. I don't know about. I hate to fish for compliments but I only didn't mention

1:32.5

them because we talked about them earlier in such detail on what's that. Okay, but now you'll see

1:37.1

seeing them in live living colour. They're moving and they're just as great as I thought they were.

1:42.1

They've lived up to all expectations and they will look magnificent on the telly when you start.

1:48.0

Great. Thank you. Yes. Coverage of the Miami Open starts on Prime Video on Wednesday.

1:53.9

Can you remember how to do it? Yes. Excellent. Well, we'll find out. June and on Wednesday to find out

2:01.6

if you're in the UK and Ireland and also if you want to check out my new pair of glasses,

2:07.9

I've been chatting to Andy Murray this week. I mentioned that on the last pod but I can now talk

2:14.0

about what he said in that interview. We'll be coming on to that later on after we've talked about

2:19.4

what's happened in the last four or five days of tennis and we possibly, David and Matt went a
