Born in Leeds and raised in poverty by his mother and grandmother, while his father spent

recurring stints in prison, he began his professional career as a midfielder at Leeds United,

where he was dubbed the Yorkshire Perlode. In 2020, he started every game for England at the

about how the events of your life make you who you are and well this film you've got coming out

this documentary, coming out with Amazon, focuses on all of that, so we'll talk about it a bit

today. We like to begin at the beginning, make sense. We grew up in Leeds in the 90s and

early 90s, yeah. He described what Leeds was like to grow up in as a city.

To be honest, I had a really good childhood from from my point of view. My childhood was the best

because you know my mum made it the best and all my friends around me on bros and sisters around

me and stuff like that, so I had a really good childhood there. I got older and you know the

difficulty is that my mum had when we were younger, I've been a single woman, working two jobs and

me having it always got to my grandmas and grandma having to look after as well when my mum was

working. I kind of realised that as I got older and yeah I think me playing football, it kind of

just gave me that fiery ability to try and make my mum a lot more proud and kind of just give

her a little bit back and watch her give me and not tell her how proud I am about it.
