What's going on, guys? Alex here. Question number 32 in the catechism, what do justification and

sanctification mean? This is something that you hear me talk about a lot in different ways.

And I usually put them in just like simpler terms for us to understand and really grasp.

But justification means our declared righteousness before God

made possible by Christ's death and resurrection for us. So justification just means being made

right with God. In our sin, we were in the wrong with God. We weren't in God's good graces to say the least.

We, because of our sin, are separated from God. But justification means through Jesus' death

and resurrection, we are declared righteous before God. Saintification means our gradual

growing righteousness made possible by the Spirit's work

in us. Gradually, day by day, we are becoming more righteous. Now, God already sees you as

righteous because of justification, but every day that righteousness is becoming more of reality

in this physical realm, in this physical body. And this is made possible by what? The Holy Spirit's

work in us. Listen to 1st Peter 1, 1 through 2. To those who are elect exiles, according to the

foreknowledge of God, the Father, and the sanctification of the Spirit,

for obedience to Jesus Christ, and for sprinkling with his blood, may grace and peace be multiplied

to you. So this is how Peter starts his letter to the church. He says, to those elect exiles.

You know, we are, we are elect, but we're exiles.

We haven't been, we haven't walked into the promised land yet. We're still meandering through

this world. Though we have focus, though we have direction, though we have a leader,

though we have someone to follow, we are still going through this desert place. But we're headed to the promised land.

And according to the foreknowledge of God and the sanctification of the spirit, because God's

foreknowledge, he chose us, he elected us, he saved us, and now through his spirit, sanctifying
