Summary

In recent years we have a growing concern about “social justice.” What is meant by that phrase, however, varies widely among those who use and promote it. What is too often missing—even in the calls for “social justice” coming from Christian leaders—is a clear understanding of biblical justice. Justice exists because God is just and righteous. He is the One who defines justice and He has revealed what true justice is in the Bible. This message helps define biblical justice by looking at what God requires of people as set forth in Micah 6:8. It was a little over six months ago, I think, that I met with a small group of brothers in Dallas, Texas,

because we all shared a common concern about this so-called social justice movement

0:13.3

that seems to have infiltrated evangelical and reformed circles over the last few years.

And the result of that meeting was the statement on social justice and the gospel that was

published and is available online and has provoked quite a bit of interest and response.

There have been people who have looked at that statement and read it and accused those who have

0:38.1

affirmed it and those who have signed it as being racists and homophobes, misogynists, and

0:45.5

schismatics.

0:47.8

But over 10,000 people have signed that statement and indicated that they appreciate that

0:53.6

statement having been published. In fact, hundreds,

0:56.8

if not thousands, have specifically referred to that statement as something of an oasis for them

1:04.3

in what has been going on in the evangelical and reformed world. The approval of that statement,

1:10.1

we don't think, is because of its pristine theological

1:12.5

constructions, not because of the eloquence of its language, but because it struck a nerve.

1:21.0

And it shined a light on an issue that desperately needs the light of God's word shined on it. We simply cannot ignore

1:30.8

any longer the fact that there have been different trends and different ideologies that have

1:37.7

been promoted in our unbelieving culture that over the last several years have begun to infiltrate churches and

1:47.9

Christian institutions, even some heretofore trustworthy churches and institutions.

1:56.6

And the biblical results are that the foundations, as has been warned, and we've been

2:02.6

warned about in the scripture, have begun to be eroded in some of these places, and

2:07.6

practices arising from scripture have begun to be thwarted.

2:12.8

Well, as many of us have discovered over the last couple of years, to stand against elements
