Jump start. Road trip story here. I went to Deep South Carolina to visit my cousins a few years back.

After six hours on Boring 95, we decided to go to a bar, which they all called the swamp joint.

It was just an old shed near a river bank that served beer.

The bar was owned by a Cherokee man named Wise Jauna,

who was prone to black magic. The rumor was that he was supposed to be 120 years old, but that's another story.

We go, get blasted, I gather my cousins to leave. There's 10 of us total. When we get outside, none of our four cars will start.

Okay, maybe we all left our lights on. We were deep in the woods and all had our highs on. We asked for a jump a few times. Everyone says no, very apologetically. They advise asking why's Jana? We kept trying on our own but finally decided to ask him. He says he'll help, but doesn't

leave his little room in the bar shed thing. After sitting and waiting, the ground vibrates and we see a glow on the overgrown grass.

Wild dogs show up and surround us.

We're all silently freaking out but frozen with fear. After about 15 minutes, all We all asked to south of the border. My cousin refuses to tell me where we were, take me back,

acknowledge anything strange that occurred on that night.

I have so many questions.

Broken branches. I was 11 when this happened. My grandmother owned a large farm in Tennessee, just

over a thousand acres. My older cousin Daniel 13 and I spent time there our entire childhood. We knew the property. It was nothing for us to wander off in plain areas that probably weren't very safe for the average kid.

My grandmother had just decided to make room for a mobile home to rent, so she had a lot of trees cut down in the area.

All the trees had been stripped of their branches, placed in logging trucks and hauled off.

The branches, however, were all piled in a tangled mess about 50 feet wide and 12 to 15 feet tall.

The branches were packed so densely that you couldn't see through them.

Daniel and I naturally gravitated toward this new unfamiliar landscape to play hide and seek.

It was something new to explore.
