Let me start by saying I'm a math major, a math leit. My friend who studies computer science

dared me to do something called the elevator ritual. He linked me to the pages of instructions.

It seemed like one of those stupid paranormal things that end up not

working 90% of the time, but this was part of the 10%. My building had 10 floors, except they were not

labeled as such. There was a lower lobby, call it

floor 0, than floors 1 through 9. I figured that I could still do this ritual,

all I had to do was subtract 1 from every floor number in the instructions.

I began at 1 a.m. when I knew nobody else would be using the elevator.

I got into the lower lobby and after calling the elevator I stepped in.

I tried hard not to look outside yet.

I felt a presence.

I pushed the button for the lower lobby, but the lights flickered and I saw the elevator go up to the ninth floor.

I thought to myself, no way as the elevator ascended.

I should have aborted and just gone back down, but I decided to step out.

After all, it was my floor.
