Elevator music. When I was 15 I would babysit my teacher's two daughters. They weren't hard to handle.

Just entertain them until bedtime, put them to sleep, and watch TV until the parents get home.

Putting them to sleep was mostly standing by the door, talking to them and

promising we could play whatever they wanted the next time I was over. One night, while they

were getting situated for bed, I heard music coming from their closet. I figured some toy was going off in there. I had made

them clean up their room earlier and assumed they shoved most of the toys into that closet.

I asked them what it was. The younger girl looked at me, shocked. She said she was surprised

I heard it. Then turned to her older sister, who was staring at me as well, equally surprised.

I thought they were trying to play a joke on me, so I played along.

I went over to the closet and whipped open the cheap sliding closet door.

What I saw inside was something I can't wrap my mind around. It was an elevator. One that I now know

looked like one from the 1920s 1930s era. There were two big red velvet box benches

that lined the walls with the same color red carpet.

The walls were gold and extremely shiny.

There's a ton of white round buttons for all of the different floors.

I remember the gold wall being extremely reflective,

but not being able to see my face reflected on the back wall.

Due to the panel having small round preparations,

kind of like a vent cover or a speaker. I remember not feeling scared or terrified.

I was a little freaked out. From the angle I was standing, the girls could not see what I was seeing.

So I slowly closed the slider and opened it again, back to normal, just a closet

...
