My friends and I love camping. We had done lots of camping in the South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado areas,

but one year we decided to go on a more northern camping slash road trip.

It would start in Wisconsin and end in the Canadian Rockies. The plan was to head out west with the goal to get to Montana, then head north about where Calgary is, then continue a bit west. Fast forward to the trip. On the trip we kept seeing and

stopping in small cowboy towns as we'd like to call them. Well nothing quite

prepared us for our stop in Montana. We assumed Montana would be like Wyoming, a few big

cities but mostly small ones and lots of land of nothing in between. We had often stopped in smaller

towns since they usually have

K-O-A campgrounds that we can stop in for the night for cheap and keep going early the

next morning. It's getting to be about that time to stop for the night.

We're a bit west of Billings, about to start heading north near Glacier National Park,

where we wanted to do a little advising before crossing into Canada.

We found a small town. I can't remember the name of it now because

we didn't end up staying for long. The population sign said about 200. We saw a campground, a hotel, one gas station and one restaurant. We pulled up to the gas

station. While we were filling up, we didn't see a single person on the street or anywhere.

It was early evening, about 5 p.m. We were just standing around looking at old buildings and the gas station garage area. Suddenly we saw movement in the window. We saw what looked like a bald child in the corner, but he quickly moved away when he saw we noticed him.

We were going to go into the store area to buy some food and drinks, but decided to keep moving.

It was creepy as hell. It reminded us of being in the

hills have eyes or something like that. Same landscape, same creepy gas station.

We finished filling then got back in the car and stopped about two blocks away at the only restaurant in town.

It was a dinky little place named Pat's Diner.

There were two cars in the parking lot, and the open sign was on.
