It's called to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Recently, we've been learning and meditating on foundational

truths about God from the Catechism. Today we reach about paragraph 200.

Now every Sunday we say in the Creed that we believe in one God.

Well, how do we know there's only one God?

And why does it even matter?

In the history of religion,

monotheism is relatively rare.

paganism, whether ancient Egyptian or modern day Hinduism, is always

conspicuous for having a huge collection or pantheon of gods. It was the great achievement of mosaic Judaism to fight against

this multiplication of bogus gods. In fact fact the First Commandment rules out all other gods. They are

to be weeded out, whittled down to the one true God. Deuteronomy says,

Here, O Israel, the Lord, your God is one.

And the prophets declare that the gods of the nations are idols.

The gods of the nations are idols. The gods of the nations are nothing. But how do we know? Can we know just by reason that there's only one God and come to think of it does it matter

practically or father who art in heaven hallow would be your name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven.
