And on this episode, I'm going to give you an update on the Menendez brothers.

But let us start from the beginning.

On the evening of August 20th, 1989, Lyle,

21 years old, and Eric, 18 years old, fatally shot their parents Jose and Mary Louise Kitty Menendez.

In the den of their Beverly Hills mansion, Jose was shot six times, including a fatal shot to

the back of the head, while Kitty was shot 10 times. And at one point, she was trying to crawl

away and one of the brothers reloaded the gun, shot her one last time, and she died.

Now, Kitty's injuries rendered her nearly unrecognizable, and the brutality of the crime

scene led investigators to initially suspect that this could have been a mob-style execution.

In the aftermath of the murders,

the brothers attempted to establish an alibi by attending a movie and later calling 911 to report the murders. However, their lavish spending following the killings raised suspicion.

Eric eventually confessed to the murders during sessions

with his psychologist, leading to the brother's arrests in 1990. The prosecution contended that the

motive was financial gain. In the weeks following the murder, Lyle and Eric engaged in a conspicuous spending spree

that drew significant attention from investigators and the public.

Now, their extravagant lifestyle funded by their parents' estate and life insurance was later

scrutinized during the trial.

Now, within days of the killings,

the brothers began making substantial purchases. They spent approximately $15,000 on Rolex watches and money clips. Lyle acquired a $64,000 Porsche, or Porsche, 9-11 Carrera, replacing his Alpha Romeo,

while Eric traded his Ford escort for a Jeep Wrangler.

They rented adjoining apartments in Marina Del Rey, with monthly rents exceeding $2,000 each and attempted to purchase a penthouse for almost a million dollars, though the deal fell through due to financial issues.
