And today we're going to be talking about the first crime in space that wasn't.

So imagine this headline.

NASA astronaut investigated for first crime in space.

It sounds like science fiction, like something out of a Netflix limited series, a hacked bank account from orbit.

Except this wasn't fiction.

Now in 2019, the world watched as decorated army officer and NASA astronaut Ann McLean

was accused by her estranged wife, Summer Heather Warden, of illegally accessing a bank

account while aboard the International Space Station.

If true, it would have been the first crime ever committed in space.

But what investigators uncovered was something very different.

This is the story of a marriage, a custody battle, a media storm, and the woman who was

just sentenced to federal prison for making it all up. Now before we talk about accusations,

we need to talk about the astronaut. Anne McLean was not just any NASA recruit.

She was an Army colonel, a combat veteran, a West Point graduate, and an engineer with advanced degrees from the United Kingdom.

And by the time NASA selected her in 2013 as part of Astronaut group 21, she was already considered elite.

Her call sign, animal, with two ends.

And then went on to complete astronaut training in 2015.

She flew to space aboard Soyuz MS-11 as part of Expedition 58-59.

She conducted three spacewalks, and over the course of Anne's missions, she accumulated more than 350 days in space.

And in 2025, she would even command a space X crew mission. So in other words,

this was a highly respected officer and astronaut at the peak of her career. But behind the scenes, Anne's personal life was unraveling. Now, Anne met Summer years before the headlines.
