It's been called one of Florida's most shocking family conspiracies. A murder for hire

born from a custody battle, whispered through phone calls,

and captured in chilling wiretaps. This is the case against Donna Adelson. The South Florida

grandmother, who prosecutors say helped orchestrate the execution of her son-in-law, Florida State University law

professor, Dan Markle. And now, more than a decade later, justice has finally caught up with her.

In 2014, Dan Markle was a rising star in the legal world, a Harvard educated professor, father of two, and passionate scholar. But his personal life was in turmoil. His marriage to Wendy Adelson, also an attorney, had ended in a bitter divorce. The custody fight that followed was devastating. Wendy wanted to move

their children to Miami to be closer to her wealthy family. Dan refused and the court agreed with him.

The boys would stay in Tallahassee. For Donna Adelson, Wendy's mother, that was the breaking point.

In a conversation later revealed in the probable cause affidavit, Donna told her daughter,

this is just not right. We're being punished. This is worth $ hundred thousand dollars to fix. That number,

100,000, would later match the amount paid to the men who ambushed and killed Dan Markle in his

driveway. On July 18, 2014, Dan Markle drove home from the gym. As he pulled into his garage, two men approached in a rented

Toyota Prius. A neighbor heard two loud pops. Dan was shot in the head at point blank range. He never

regained consciousness. Police would later link the gunman,

Sigfrido Garcia, and Louis Rivera,

to Catherine Magbanawa,

who was romantically involved with Donna's son,

Charlie Adelson.

That connection between the Adelson's and the killers would become the backbone of the

state's case. In 2016, the FBI set up an undercover sting, what agents called the bump. They
