Our thought is that I would do up-to-date cases that kind of fit into our marital love gone

horrifically wrong type of box all by myself, kind of giving you guys what you've been asking

for, which is cases that have just recently hit the media.

We kind of did this back with our afternoon delights, but it was a lot to add to our ready full

schedule. So we're just going to kind of see how this goes if everybody likes it.

And then we'll go from there.

So welcome to the very first episode of Just Melissa.

Now this is a case that a lot of you have been talking about and asking me to cover,

which is the case of Gerhardt and Ariel Koenig. A little before 10 a.m. on March 24th,

2025, a pair of hikers along the Polypuka Trail in beautiful Oahu, Hawaii, began to hear a woman screaming for help. They rushed up the trail to an area

near the edge of a steep overlook and saw a woman lying in the dirt, bleeding from her head,

and a man standing over her. The woman yelled out, he is trying to kill me. The hikers intervened, and the man took off

into the forest. The hikers then called 911. The woman's name was Ariel Koenig, and the man was her

husband of six years, 46-year-old Gerhardt Koig. Arreal believed that her husband had been trying to take

her life. Police and emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the area. Once stabilized,

Arielle told investigators that she and her anesthesiologist husband had flown in just the day before,

visiting Oahu from their home in Maui, vacationing in Waikiki and celebrating her 36th birthday,

which just so happened to be that very day.

The two decided to take a birthday hike along the Polly Trail,

which follows a narrow ridge with drops on both sides.
