I'm your host Andrew Heaton, and I used to be a member of a club that got raided by

federal agents. I joined the New York

Friars Club a couple of years before I left New York City. It's where

Friars Club roasts come from, where comedians roast each other like this.

Tonight on

on-tramp music hall. The friars roast check finish. Most Jack Benny. Starring Mildenburg.

Although by the time I arrived the club at Soldrose Rights to Comedy Central, but still,

the Friars Club was and is a hallowed spot in the history of comedy.

It was founded as a clubhouse in New York City for comedians to hang out with each

other and get brub. Back in the days of Milton Burrow, Ed Sullivan, and Johnny Carson,

this is where comedians hung out behind closed doors. By the time I got

inducted it had lost a bit of relevance, most of the people at the Friars Club

were, in my estimation, wealthy retired gynecologists or dentists or something, who liked

comedy, but probably never made it.

But it was still a very nice place, a big old Victorian mansion with a billiards room and a dining hall even a steam room and some of the really old guys had stories from the salad days.

I sat at a dinner with a man one time who had joined the club I want to say in like

1950, like he joined it before my parents were born and I went, wow, that is a long time to be a member of this institution.

You know, what's a memory that really stands out to you?

And this guy looked into the middle distance and his face just dropped like he was remembering a car

rack or something and he took a deep breath and he went, Milton Burrell had the

biggest penis.
