Hello, it's a while since we've done a complicated exam question, but exam season is still going,

so I thought we should bring it back.

And this is from a maths teacher in North London called Charlie, who actually stopped me

in person to pass this on, so thank you to him.

And it's from a very complicated GCSE maths paper.

So this might help if you either look at my Twitter feed or an Instagram, so you've got

a visual aid or maybe you'll want to grab a piece of paper and a pencil and draw it

after my fantastic description.

So what you have to do is you've got to picture three circles, so one circle, then another

circle overlapping that one, and then another circle overlapping the second circle.

There are dots in the centre of each circle marked A, B and C, and there is a shaded area

of the middle circle that is not overlapped by either the first or the third circle.

The question is, what is the size of the shaded area given that the radius of each circle

is four centimetres?

Got it?

Thinking about it, finished drawing it.

This caused loads of controversy when it was in an exam paper a couple of weeks ago,

but hopefully that can be cleared up now by Zoe Griffiths, who's a maths musician,

maths communicator and former teacher.
