reporting that Iran's President Rouhani mocked President Trump, saying the White House is, quote,

afflicted by mental retardation. Washington Post also reports that Rouhani called the restrictions targeting the Supreme

Leader outrageous and idiotic and said they showed a certain failure by the Trump White House

to isolate Iran.

Is Congress going to ruin the holiday season again?

Over the last few days, Republican and Democratic aides have come to the conclusion that

a big budget deal is probably out of reach for now. So this will turn September into a rush to pass a short-term

spending bill. That short-term bill could either go into 2020 or to the end of the year so Congress

could try to create a big budget deal that would hike spending. A short-term deal would keep spending

at the same levels they are right now.

It's totally possible, if not even likely, that Washington will be thrown into a holiday season crisis as the White House and Congress tried to get a big budget deal ahead of January 1.

Speaking of congressional drama, Heather Kegel, Burgess Everett, and Sarah Ferris report,

the Congress has stumbled in its efforts to address the border crisis before leaving

for the July 4th holiday recess, dimming the long-shot hope of trying to stave off Trump's

threatened mass deportations. And here's a headline the president will like. The New York Times

is reporting that Mexico's crackdown on its southern border is scaring migrants from crossing.

And the AP reports that the

U.S. government has removed children from a Texas patrol station after the wire service exposed

bad treatment of the children. Burgess Everton and Ileana Johnson report that Secretary

State Mike Pompeo has a dilemma. Stick with the Trump administration where he's a Secretary of State
