Meanwhile, Democrats are getting ready to block police overhaul. Senate Majority Leader Mitch

McConnell has set up a Wednesday vote on police reform. But here's the hitch. Democrats need

to agree to bring Senator Tim

Scott's bill to a debate, and their body language indicates that they are going to block it.

Burgess Everett reported last night that Senate Democrats were, quote, strongly signaling that they

will filibuster Republicans' police reform bill later this week, absent more concessions from Senate

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Several Senate Democrats flagged Monday evening that the NAACP Legal Defense Fund urged

Democrats to oppose the bill.

Democratic whip Dick Durbin told a small clutch of reporters Monday in the Capitol,

there's no clarity on what McConnell

is offering. In other words, Democrats want a commitment on what kind of amendments will get to offer

and they're not getting it. Durbin says he has faced similar offers from McConnell in the past,

most notably when Democrats voted against debating the CARES Act, the large-scale COVID stimulus

bill. Quote, the best thing that happened was we didn't accept his offer.

We demanded a bipartisan approach to it, Durbin said.
