Hi, friends. I'm Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. We say often around here that you don't

0:06.2

have to be in the Gospels every day to be changed, but every day you're in the Gospels will change you.

0:10.8

So I'm really glad you're with us today. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament

0:15.3

in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth,

0:19.7

the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. So each month we get to read

0:25.7

all four books. Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss any of it. And today is one of my

0:30.4

favorite kind of days where we are between two books. So we get three two books today. We're going

0:34.8

to finish up the book of John, which means we'll spend the last eight days of the month in the book

0:39.2

of Luke. If you are enjoying spending a little time every day in the Gospels, invite someone to join

0:44.3

you to join us for this last week of June. And that's a great way for them to try it out and see

0:48.8

if they want to commit for the month of July. Okay, so here's how it works. I'm going to read three

0:52.8

chapters to you today. You can listen or read along in your own Bible. And then I'll pray. And that's

0:56.6

it. So today is June 22nd, day 22 of this month. And I'll be reading John, chapters 20 and 21,

1:03.5

and Luke chapter one. And this month, I'm reading from the NRSV.

1:10.3

John 20. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the

1:15.8

tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and

1:20.7

the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, they have taken the Lord out of the

1:25.0

tomb and we do not know where they have laid him. Then Peter and the other disciples set out and

1:30.3

went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple out ran Peter and reached

1:35.2

the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in.

1:41.4

Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying

1:46.8

there and the cloth that had been on Jesus's head not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up
