| 0:00.0 | After weeks of some of the most intense negotiations in Celtics history, Larry Bird is finally in the fold. The highly-touted 6-9-inch All-American forward out of Indiana State signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract with the Green, making him the richest rookie in the history of pro sports. It's estimated that the two-time All-American signed a pact that will call for him to get about $3.5 million over the next five years. Everyone that knows when you got that kind of money, you've got to be happy. It was just about it, the South Express Conference Day, to announce it all smiles on the parties of those concerned. Today's signing brought to an end, the tough negotiating war between Byrd's agent, Bob Wolf and Seltz general manager, Red Arbac. Bird and Arbac summed it up this way. Because where I'm from, not very many people know about me. And, you know, when I started growing up and everything, I never dreamed of being here. And finally, the day has come. And it's very exciting for me and my family. And I'll do the best I possibly can to help the Celtics win. It's just everything is starting to fall into place. |
