Good Wednesday morning. I'm Jake Sherman and welcome to your political playbook audio briefing, sponsored by BP.

And I'm Anna Palmer. President Donald Trump's legislative agenda is quickly slipping away from him.

Here we are on June 18th and Congress and the White House are woefully behind on two critical priorities that most believe need to get done before the August recess.

Getting a trade deal passed and a budget deal sealed. The last two budget deals in 2018 and 2015 took roughly a year

to come together. So you might be skeptical that a deal could come together in the next two weeks.

If you think, oh, this could get done in September, think again. By then,

lawmakers will be facing extremely pressing deadlines and will quickly focus on passing a stopgap

to avoid $100 billion in spending cuts and raising the debt limit. Remember the USMCA? The Trump

administration privately concedes if it's not done by August, it's not going to get done at all.

And it doesn't look like it's going to happen in the next 20-something legislative days.

Other priorities that have slipped away?

Infrastructure, money for the president's border wall, a health care plan.

President Donald Trump launched his 2020 campaign in Florida last night.

Gabby Orr was on the scene last night, writing that Trump was greeted by thousands of adoring

supporters. The president said it's a movement made up a people who believe a nation must care

for its own citizens first. The New York Times noted that Trump did not put forward any new

policies or a cohesive agenda for a second term. I've got a new women rule podcast out this morning
