U.S. Supreme Court strikes down a federal ban on bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire

like machine guns. A Department of Justice report finds that the Phoenix Police

Department routinely discriminated, used excessive force, and violated civil rights.

And a look at the water shortage gripping Mexico City and the city's failure to

supply running water to many of its 22 million residents.

All that money that politicians spend on putting up banners, TV ads, and all that,

the fair thing would be for them to spend it on these neighborhoods

Another big day at the U.S US Supreme Court as the justices handed down a

decision with major implications for firearm regulations. In a six to three ruling, the

conservative majority found that the government exceeded its authority when it issued a ban in 2018 on bump stocks.

That's a gun accessory used in the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

A bump stock is used on the back end of a semi-automatic rifle.

It allows the user to re-engage the trigger continuously,

dramatically increasing the rate of fire, like that of an automatic weapon.

Marsha Koyle, our Supreme Court analyst,

has been following this case closely and joins me now. Marsha, it's always great to speak with you.

So this federal bump stock band was approved back in 2018 by then President Trump,

and it was in response to that 2017 Las Vegas outdoor music concert shooting.
