And I'm Jake Sherman. It's June 1st, 80 days since Friday, March 13th, which many Americans will remember is the last day of normalcy pre-COVID-19.

An ugly miasma of disease, economic unrest and resulting protests and

riots simmering around America. A deep and profound distrust in our government is pulsating

through the country. We've lost more than 100,000 Americans to a disease that has disproportionately

hurt black and brown people. And now protests and riots rooted in the mistreatment of those same

communities has taken over several of our largest cities. The unrest has reached the doorstep of

the White House where police fired tear gas at protesters last night and is evident all across

graffitied monuments of the National Mall. The New York Times' front page banner headline this

morning reads,

Twin crises and surging anger convulse U.S.

It will be fair to ask a simple question.

What is President Donald Trump and his team thinking?

If there ever was an occasion to rise to, this is it.

The nation is thirsting for comfort and healing.

It's difficult to define the thinking of any politician and especially difficult to figure out what Trump is thinking. But best we can tell, from his public

tweets and the aides around him, he believes Americans will be more disgusted by the violent protests

and riots than they are by racism and the systematic mistreatment of black and brown people.

It is not fair to say he has not addressed the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. He has,

but he has dwelt far more on the violent protests and riots. Here's a maximum politics that a source
