Good evening. I'm John Yang. Jeff Bennett and Omna Nawaz are away. On the news hour tonight, the Supreme Court completes another historic term with rulings that expand presidential authority and could have far-reaching consequences for the future of American democracy.

As Americans celebrate their freedom on this Independence Day, President Trump is celebrating a decisive win for his domestic agenda. His second term legislative wish list, officially entitled

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, is now law.

Given the gavel that used to cast the legislation,

the president signed the sweeping tax and spending cuts surrounded by congressional

Republicans.

He touted the bill as one having a generational impact.

It includes the largest tax cut in American history, the largest spending cut, $1.7 trillion,

and yet you won't even notice it just waste,

fraud and abuse in American history.

So you have the biggest tax cut, the biggest spending cut, the largest border security investment.

The new law is unprecedented in many ways, extending the tax cuts of Mr. Trump's first term, along with others, to the tune of

$4.5 trillion, adding another $1.4 trillion in spending cuts, and according to the Congressional

Budget Office, adding a record $3.2 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years.
