So just as we were welcoming Goggs McKay back to the Paracast, I get a phone call.

And the phone call says, congratulations, you just won some kind of cruise on Norwegian lines,

whatever that is. Now, isn't that exciting? I won a cruise? Of course, it's one of those spam calls.

It's no real thing like that. Do you get telemarketing calls in Scotland?

We absolutely do, and they're such a pain because they always come like 6pm at night

when people are busy getting their dinner and stuff.

I don't know if you can do it in the States, I presume, over here, you can choose to go on

a preferential list in which most of these numbers are banned, so they kind of screen

them out. But it doesn't screen them out totally. And as you know, the Paracast Forum proudly

says that we do not give out people's email addresses to other companies. But there are so many

things that we all have to sign up for these days online,

and they're all swapping people's details around, you know, I do not like that practice at all.

We have something called the Do Not Call Registry, which is a part of the Federal Trade Commission in the United States.

And there are legal penalties for people who violate this.

And a now departed relative used to run a company where he would do telemarketing,

so you'd get lists from list brokers.

And in theory, they would have to, before they sold you the list, run those numbers

against the do not call registry. And you can download for lots of money those call lists. The problem
