David Price getting into it with Dennis Eckersley on a team flight.

David Price unhappy with Dennis Eckersley about some things he said.

0:09.9

People saying that Dennis Eckersley is very critical, to which I would say what,

0:15.2

saying cheese is very critical?

0:17.9

No, he's, I think he does a great job.

0:20.2

I think he does a very good, but he's, he's fair, but he's always fair.

0:22.2

Yeah, but he's never stuck out to me as someone who's like killing the players.

0:25.7

I mean, he's just, I mean, it doesn't seem like he's...

0:29.4

That's not his schick, like, you know, just like crapping on the guys.

0:32.6

He's not the Adam Jones of the Nesson booth.

0:34.7

He's more matter of fact. Okay, that stunk. Well, he also is honest. I mean, when he says somebody stinks, I think everybody viewing it home goes, yeah, he's absolutely right. And it's also odd that he's calling the games while the games are going on, and the players seem hyperly aware of what he's saying. Well, I mean, according to Dan Shaughnessy, who wrote an article that's out in

0:54.7

this morning's Globe, it's pretty fantastic because when Shaughnessy was out in Los Angeles,

we'll have him on at 820 with us. He spoke with a bunch of people who knew what was going on

and were there firsthand to see the confrontation between Dennis Eckersley and David Price. David Price, a guy who, of course, we know, it might be the most thin-skinned Boston athlete right now. I mean, is there a guy playing in Boston sports right now who's more thin-skinned than David Price, from what we know? Who bitches more about the media? Who bitches more about what other people say? He's the guy. He's the most thin skin of anyone playing in Boston right now.

So this is from Dan Shaughnessy. He wrote, while in California, I spoke with six people who witnessed the Price-Eckersley incident and another handful of folks close to the situation. Few would agree to be quoted. Eckersley and Price would not comment, but here's the narrative of what went down. sports writers stopped flying with ball clubs a quarter century ago, but 10 ancillary team employees, including the broadcasters and eight members of Nesson, still fly with the Red Sox. Nesson's longtime color commentator Jerry Remy is recovering from cancer surgery and has not been on the team since June 21st. Steve Lyons typically fills in for Remy on the road, but he has curiously disappeared from all nests in broadcast, citing a, quote, personal situation. That is weird, by the way. I wanted to talk about that. Eckersley does not like to travel with a team. He's a recovering alcoholic and seeks to avoid the trappings of the road. He's also aware that many socks players dislike his blunt, sometimes critical style. One would think that his

seasons would insulate him from the anger of

today's players, but that would be incorrect.

2:25.8

They said, okay,

2:27.5

this is interesting because I did not know about this.

Jackie Bradley Jr. would disagree.

Two years ago, when the socks were in Detroit, Bradley set up Eckersley.
