All right, a quick dispatch from over the weekend.

Ohio Senate hopeful J.D. Vance was in the Hamptons on Saturday night, mingling with GOP Titans of Industry.

Jim Tish, Rebecca Mercer, Stephen Price, and Heather Higgins were among those who came out to support the author of Hillbilly Elegy at a fundraiser in Southampton.

Before the event, Vance visited the East Hampton home of Am Emil Henry, a former senior treasury official for George W. Bush, and a perennial sounding board for aspiring Republican presidents.

Henry's a longtime supporter and advisor to Senator Rob Portman. He was an early supporter of Jeb Bush's campaign for president, and he notably declined to support Donald Trump.

Chuck Schumer seems to be channeling Mitch McConnell these days.

The Senate Majority Leader is taking a gamble worthy of the last guy to have his job by scheduling two major

deadlines this week to force action on President Joe Biden's agenda.

It's a hardball move meant to test whether Republicans who say they want by partisanship

actually mean it, but also to strong arm his own ideologically diverse caucus into line on the massive Democratic-only

reconciliation bill.

First up, the bipartisan package.

Schumer will file closer today on the BIF, whether or not final text has been drafted.

That will set up a procedural vote on the bill 30 hours later.

That'll put Republicans on record for the first time Wednesday, even as they continue negotiating on the final language.

Senators in the group spent the entire weekend trying to plug a nearly $100 billion hole in the $1 trillion plan after Republicans took issue with plans to beef up IRS enforcement.

Sources familiar with the ongoing talks told us last night that there were other outstanding

issues as well.
