A reading from the Book of First Chronicles.

The divisions of the sons of Aaron were these, the sons of Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eliezer, and Ithamar.

But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no children, so Eliezer and Ithamar became the priests.

With the help of Zadok of the sons of Eliezer and Ahimelech of the sons

of Ithamar, David organized them according to the appointed duties in their service. Since more

chief men were found among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, they organized

them under sixteen heads of father's houses of the sons of Eliezer and eight of the sons of

Ithamar. They divided them by lot, all alike, the sons of Eleazar, and eight of the sons of Ithamar.

the second to Jada, the third to Haram, the fourth to Seerum, the fifth to Malchaijah, the sixth to Majaman, the

seven to Hakos, the eighth to Abijah, the ninth to Jeshua, the 10th to Chechnaya,

the 11th to Elishab, the 12th to Jacob, the 13th to Hoopa, the 14th to Jeshebib, the 15th to Bilga,

the 16th to Emmer, the 17th to Hemer, the 17th to Heezer, the 18th to Hepazez, the 19th to Pitha

the 20th to Jehezkel, the 21st to Jakin, the 22nd to Gamal, the 23rd to Delea, the 24th to Meaziah.

These had as their appointed duty in their service to come into the

house of the Lord, according to the procedure established for them by Aaron their father,

as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.
