Julia I know you're enjoying being in guys and dolls at the National Theatre

but we have to take you away and put you on a desert island. Could you endure loneliness?

I find it very difficult.

I'm terrible chatterbox.

I find it most difficult, I think not talking to anyone.

Do you play discs a lot?

Yes, I do.

It's a strange thing.

Before I was married, I would sit for many hours and play a lot of classical tracks that I like.

But since I've been married, I have this terrible fear that my husband's going to come into the room and interrupt me

and I can't bear being interrupted when I'm playing things that I really love.

I like to be completely transported.

There would be no danger of that on the desert island,

but then no one would come in interrupt me. No interruptions at all. Did you find it difficult

to choose just eight for the island? It's impossible. It's absolutely impossible. So I've put some restrictions on myself.

One was that I wasn't going to play any records by friends because there are only eight choices.

I have many more than eight friends who record and they'd all thumped me if I didn't choose this.

So I'd have to carry their talents with me in my head.

And the other thing was I wanted to choose eight traps all by Stephen Sondheim because I'm a Stephen Sondheim freak.
