Cardiology for July 24th, 2020. This week COVID, a note on vaccines, defibrillators, watchman, and two excellent features.

First let me apologize for my voice.

I have an upper respiratory infection, it's viral and caused the fever, but fortunately it is not COVID.

The short story on COVID update is that America remains in a hotbeds.

Yesterday we hit 4 million, 4 million cases.

Of course, hospitalizations are increasing and early data it looks like deaths and certain

hotspots are tracking up. A week ago US deaths were 141,000 and now they are 147

so the rate of rise of 1.04X is steady.

But again, the flat line belies the focal nature of this pandemic, and the same hotspots remain.

Still though, in terms of COVID deaths per million in each state,

the current hotspots remain many fold lower than New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Internationally, Brazil, Mexico, India continue to report increasing cases and deaths.
