| 0:13.0 | Well, I started splashing around without my rubber ring when I was eight and I joined my club really as a hobby when I was 11. |

| 0:24.0 | Well, I think it was a club event and I came in a very poor last splash in my eyes. |

| 0:32.0 | Well, I never really thought about the training seriously. I was ended for small events and I used to train for those. |
| 0:38.0 | Then I entered for a larger event and you know, train hard for those. |
| 0:42.0 | But I suppose the really most training I've ever done was before the Olympic Games. |
| 0:46.0 | When did you first swim abroad? |
| 0:49.0 | He was in Denmark. I swim for England. He was my second international and I think was 1955. |

| 0:57.0 | Yes. |
| 0:58.0 | Well, 1955 was a terrific year for you wasn't it? You beat the Champions of Six Nations in the 100 metres back Sturgeon Moscow. |
| 1:04.0 | You beat the British record for a hundred yards and you won every possible championship in Britain. |
| 1:09.0 | Well, I was very lucky that year. |
| 1:11.0 | And you were only 16. |
| 1:13.0 | Well, then you were picked for the Olympic team for the following year at Melbourne. |
| 1:17.0 | That's you said when you really had to start getting down the way. |
| 1:20.0 | How many hours a day did you train before that? |
