Summary

Vanessa and Casper explore the theme of judgement in chapter thirteen of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This week we discuss blind love, alcoholism at Hogwarts, and why we all take such joy in Draco being turned into a ferret. Our question this week is: how do we learn to value things based on their inherent worth, rather than their functionality?

Our voicemail this week is thanks to Bri Anele. Next week we're reading chapter fourteen, The Unforgivable Curse, through the theme of transformation. We'll be also be joined by special guest, Science Mike, from The Liturgists podcast!

And a necessary Potter and the Secret Text.

1:44.4

One of the reasons my parents moved to a little village of Forest Row in England was that we could live near enough the school that we went to so that we could walk every morning.

1:53.6

It was about a 20 minute walk and so many kids walked to school that there was sort of an exodus moment as you arrived near the school like the hordes of children and teenagers.

2:03.2

And so me as like a little 5, 6, 7 year old walking next to my mom and my sisters, I'd look around at these bigger kids.

2:10.3

And one of the things I always noticed was you know some of them were Goths or emo.

2:14.4

And so I would say to my mom like, Mom, I'm never going to wear black. I always just want to wear colors.

2:21.3

And of course now I wear a lot of black.

2:24.5

And then when I was maybe 12 or 13 and I was like really obsessed with the top 40 music charts, I thought it was nearly criminal.

2:32.7

If you didn't know what was number one or like a couple of top 10 songs, like how could you be so out of touch?
