And there's kind of a mock attempt to obey Deuteronomy 17, which says in verse 15, one from among

your brothers, you shall set as king over you. So it's kind of like they've got a window dressing

of Bible verses that they're employing the same way that in 1 Samuel 8, they're

going to say, we want a king like all the nations.

And that phrase also is used in Deuteronomy 17.

ended with the end of Gideon. And we, you know, in that episode, from being honest, we kind of

hammered Gideon for a while. And for good reason, you know, Gideon is kind of bloodthirsty. Remember

he killed Ziba and Zalumna and he's blasphemous with the Eiffud, which we talked about. And then we

get to the end of Judges chapter 8, and we read in verse 34, and the people of Israel

did not remember the Lord their God who had delivered them from their hand of all their

enemies on every side. This is after Gideon died. And they did not show steadfast love to the family

of Jerubable, which is another name for Gideon, in return for all the good that he had done to

Israel. So in summary, Gideon, we'd spend a lot of time talking about him.

He's kind of a mixed bag, a man full of faith, but a man full of, you know, some voibles as well.

Today we're going to talk about Judges 9 through 10, and we're going to talk about that son,

Abimelech, who is decidedly an unmixed bag.

Before we do that, Sam, remind us of the cycle of the book of judges.
