Summary
Donald Trump is still being sued for what he did on January 6, 2021: launching an attack on the United States Capitol to steal a presidential election from the American people. He is still being sued by several police officers who were assaulted that day by his angry mob, and he is still being sued by democratic lawmakers who were under siege that day as a result of the Trump-induced Capitol attack. In that ongoing litigation, Donald Trump asserted that everything he did on and around January 6, 2021, was an official presidential act so he should be immune from being sued.
A federal judge has now rejected Trump's immunity claim, ruling that lawsuit against Donald Trump will move forward toward trial.
This is an important ruling on the accountability front. And it may even serve as foreshadowing for what might happen in the future in the event the January 6 criminal prosecution is reinitiated against Trump once he leaves office.
