Welcome back to the Dersh show. I want to start with a sad note. I received an email today from the

President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, who's an old friend of mine,

tragically informing me of the death of a cousin of mine,

fighting for the Israeli defense forces in Gaza.

I did not really know him.

He's an Israeli.

Apparently I met his father

who emigrated from Poland to the United States and then to Israel.

They changed their name from Dershooz to D'R-O-W-E-R-O-W-E and the hero, the man who was killed fighting for Israel's name was

Gideon Diro, 33-year-old lawyer expecting his first child.

And the president of Israel is arranging for me to do a virtual Shiva visit, you know, in the Jewish

tradition when somebody is killed or dies. You sit for seven days. It comes from

what Abraham did in the Bible when his wife

Sarah died and so I will try to reach my relatives by Skype or Zoom.

And send my condolences. This is the second relative of mine

that has been killed by Israel's enemies.

The first one was between the 1967 and 1973 wars. There was a period

called a war of attrition where Egypt was firing at Israeli installations and

another cousin this one a relatively close cousin are the only child of Holocaust survivors, was killed. Every Israeli has lost people.

And I was honored that President Herzog would personally reach out to me.

His wife went to visit the family to pay a ship a call.
