Jesus said, truly I say to you, one of you will betray me, one of you who is eating with

me.

They were just absolutely shocked.

Judas was such an adept hypocrite, such a skilled hypocrite, that they had no idea it was

him.

That's how skilled he was as a hypocrite.

This is hypocrisy at its blackest.

There is a particular name. Its original meaning has to do with praise and

Thanksgiving, but today it's synonymous with treason and deceit. I'm talking about the name

Judas. And today on Grace to You, John MacArthur will look at the events that branded Judas

as history's greatest traitor. Today's lesson is part of John's series called the

Divine Drama of Redemption. But before the lesson, some interesting trivia. John had a

long-time interest in the life of Judas. In fact, his story actually had a role in John's

preparation for becoming a pastor. Here's how John told that story.

Yeah, growing up in a pastor's family and being, you know, privy to what was going on in the church,

I saw people who claim to be Christians defect, disappear, commit adultery, you know,

wander off from the church, deny the Lord. And I always wondered,

how can they do that? What is the pathology of that? What is happening? And when I was in high school, I had a very close friend. And we were in a youth group together, and we used to go

give the gospel to people in a big park in Los Angeles,

and he denied the faith, completely denied the faith.
