Join Lynne as you asks some hard questions about Jospeh's work on the Bible and the most significant verses he translated. Joseph Smith’s translation (JST) of the Bible did not start with its original languages of Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) as technical translations do. In this way, the JST is more of a revision of certain passages. Many passages Joseph was inspired to add or change—especially in early chapters of Genesis. For other portions, the JST modernized the grammar or clarified the text. Some changes came from revelation after asking questions, and others from his own preferences and understanding.

0:47.1	And today we're going to focus on the hard questions surrounding the Joseph Smith translation.
0:55.9	Part of the scripture central goal is to build enduring faith in Christ by illuminating restored scripture and making it more accessible and defensible and comprehensible. And one of the reasons why I'm thrilled to be
1:01.1	addressing some of the hard questions on the Joseph Smith translation is because these are recent.
1:05.8	These are issues that have been developed and come out in my lifetime and I'm really happy
1:10.5	to talk about them.
1:11.7	What is the value of the Joseph Smith translation?
1:14.5	Why do we even call it a translation when it wasn't?
1:17.5	Why didn't Joseph publish it?
1:19.5	Why don't we use it exclusively?
1:22.0	Did Joseph copy it from Adam Clark's commentary?
1:25.6	And why did Joseph edit some portions repeatedly?
1:29.4	Why isn't it thorough if it was revelation? All of these things are very good questions.
1:35.0	And I hope as we ask these questions with a humble and sincere heart, we can find honest answers.
