Jared Polin Froano's Photo.com and this is photo news fix extra. That's right. The extra is for the

extra goodness in my voice right now because it's in the morning. I don't usually record

first thing in the morning but today I need to because we are going out on a five-minute portrait to test out or do a challenge

with the Nikon 8 to 15 millimeter fish eye. We're taking it out to the art museum because that's a

great place to go shoot a fish eye as a challenge. And then there's a skate park right across the

street. What is a better way to shoot a fish eye lens than to shoot

at a skate park so let's get into the photo news fix we've got two stories this time because i just

didn't find very many stories that that i thought were interesting enough to share with the rest of you

guys they were just kind of filler.

And I don't want to give filler.

And I'll explain that soon at the end with what the filler story could have been.

So the first of the first right here of the photo news fix stories is JPEG's dead. That's right, JPEG's dead. Well, JPEG's dead at least in iOS 11 in the forthcoming Apple's release of iOS 11. What they've done is they've changed up the way that

they're using their codex or their compressions to a new thing called

H-EVC format which stands for high-efficiency video coding which is supposed to save

you up to 50% in storage space now that is a lot of savings it's kind of similar

to if you watch Silicon Valley and they have a good Weissman score.

If you don't watch Silicon Valley, you won't know what that is. But in Silicon Valley, their whole

idea is to build Pied Piper into a compression company, which moves data quicker and shrinks it, but

with lossless compression, which is pretty cool. So H-EVC is also known as H-265, which is pretty cool. So HEVC is also known as H265. You may recall H264 as a compression that Apple was touting for a long time. Well, H265 is even better. And it's been around since 2015. It's been used in FaceTime calls to save on bandwidth. And Netflix and Amazon instant video have also been using it for the last few years.

Now, you know that it's important to save on space because cloud storage has gotten not gotten expensive, but Amazon has done away with the unlimited storage, but everybody knows we're creating more content than
