Summary

Joy to the World is a popular Christmas song but a recent study found that 88 percent of people feel stressed during the holidays. Philippians, written by Paul while in seemingly unjoyful circumstances in jail, teaches us how God, not our circumstances, should be the greatest source of joy – at Christmas and all throughout the year. In this first sermon in the “Joy to the World” series, Pastor Mark will teach from Philippians 1:1-14 and Acts 16 on how to find joy even when you’re lonely.

0:17.0	start a new book of the Bible. If you've got a Bible go to Philippians. If you
0:21.2	don't have a Bible find a fake one on your phone. Go to Philippians it's gonna be
0:25.3	great we're gonna spend the holiday season looking at the book of
0:29.2	Philippians and learning about the joy of the Lord. And so let me set up our
0:35.4	time together in this simple observation. The U.S. Declaration of Independence
0:41.6	says this and I quote all men are created equal and doubted by their
0:46.1	creator with certain unalienable rights and among these are life, liberty and
0:53.1	the pursuit of happiness. Did you catch it? Life guaranteed. Liberty guaranteed.
0:59.6	Happiness best of luck. That's what I say. What I'm saying is that it is easier to
1:06.1	guarantee life and liberty and happiness is something that is elusive. You are
1:11.6	welcome to pursue it but people don't know how to find it. Amen? And what we
1:17.6	live in is a joyless, cheerless, frustrated, angry world. Amen? How many of you
1:24.6	watch the news? They're like there's no good news. That's why we opened this
1:28.7	book. This is the only place you'll find the good news about the joy of the Lord.
1:33.5	But we live in a country that was founded as an experiment in the pursuit of
1:38.8	happiness and we now find ourselves in the holiday season where we hear these
1:44.9	amazing historic songs like Joy to the World. Right? Or how about this one?
